Recognizing that the entrepreneurship principles and practices are key in building nations, communities, and perpetuating wealth, the ELI Institute will provide a focal point for educating students at Howard University about the role of entrepreneurship in other parts of the world. Additionally, the ELI Institute will select a global partner to assist in educating and exposing global entrepreneurs to the best practices of conceptualizing, starting, and growing a sustainable and profitable venture.
Global Entrepreneurship Week The ELI Institute will partner with the Kauffman Foundation, and the White House, and the Ford Motor Company to facilitate events at Howard University and in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area that promote domestic and global entrepreneurship, provide a primer of necessary skills for students interested in starting a business, and educate(s) students on the “types” of entrepreneurship. Event happens in annually in the Fall.
Dell Social Innovation Competition Informational Dell and selected partners are looking for college students from around the world who want to improve areas of critical human need through innovation. Providing a vehicle for taking student innovations from idea to reality, Dell’s Social Innovation Competition is a real-world exercise for perfecting student skills in:
- Project/business plan development
- Pitching ideas to investors
- Building resource networks
The ELI Institute in this regard aims to model current and in progress Social Ventures to the student body at Howard to 1) shed light on global issues for which “Social Entrepreneurs” apply their skills, abilities, and cultural equity to solve the aforementioned, 2) develop an audience of students and community members that are aware of global social issues, and 3) provide training, coaching, and resources for students who have readily identified a social issue and wish to use the competition as a vehicle to help solve it.
Scholars Educate Abroad The ELI Institute will identify a school or organization abroad that focuses on training entrepreneurs and exhibits a pronounced financial need. The ELI Institute will partner with said school or organization and assist by:
- Leveraging its audience, professional networks, and student organization (The Howard University Entrepreneurial Society) to build awareness for the mission and purpose of the school or organization as well as fundraising goals
- Organize experts in entrepreneurial though and practicum (professors for the Howard University School of Business, ELI Institute Fellows, and selected students from the Howard University Entrepreneurial Society) to travel to the school or organization and, 1) provide targeted educational programs and mentoring, 2) perform a community service program, and 3) assist in facilitating a Business Plan Competition
